Hello darkness, my old friend, I've come to skate with you again
because the Union wants a piece of me, and tried to force me onto French TV,
And they threaten'd to take the sanctioning away, so I say
I'll skate alone, in silence

I simply asked if I could skate... without an overloaded slate
Of competitions sited far and wide... 'cause I'm sick of being over-tired
And my hand was slapped by the wrath of the president, he loves those cents,
He makes me skate in silence.

And in the wake of this, the internet did hiss
People typing without thinking, people ranting without reading,
People quoting rules that the rule book never held, but understood
Still I must skate in silence.

Child, said he, you must obey, skate when and where I say
see, I'm cutting off your pro-am path, and I'll block your world team with my wrath,
But his words didn't make me add Lalique,
I thought, I'd rather skate in silence.

Skating fans did snarl and wail, seeking out a paper trail
but there isn't a rule in the books no matter where they look
And the net said the words of the Union prove they love themselves
It's sure not us... so gladly I will skate in silence.
